viper sinister darts review

When choosing the right darts, there are many different factors to consider.

This might come as something of a surprise to the uninitiated. After all, darts seem like little more than small metal arrows that you throw. How complicated can they really be?

In fact, darts are incredibly intricate in their engineering and are often made from multiple smaller parts. Actually, making sure that all those parts hold together firmly is one of the most important things to ensure when you pick your darts!

There’s an awful lot to consider then, and this can be daunting if you’re not an expert on the subject. Fortunately, one of the best ways to ensure that you’re getting the very best experience is simply to find a well-respected brand and then choose one of their top products.

That’s exactly what we’re doing here. Viper is an immensely popular name in the world of darts, and the Sinister is one of their most iconic designs. Let’s take a look at what makes this such a great dart and whether it’s the right one for you.

Available in Steel & Soft Tips

These darts come as either steel tip or soft tip. For the unfamiliar, steel tip darts are the darts used by the pros and the type that you are most likely familiar with. These can be used with wooden or paper boards, as well as bristle and e-bristle boards. They are sharp and will embed themselves into the surface when they land.

Soft tip darts are darts that don’t have a sharp pointed end. These work by sticking into plastic dart boards – usually electronic – wedging into the small holes that those boards include.

Viper Sinister Darts Construction

The Viper Sinister is a dart made from 95% tungsten. Most darts are made either from tungsten or from brass, with tungsten being by far the preference for those that are serious about the game.

Brass is more generally used by amateur and budget darts. This is because it’s a cheaper material but also a much lighter one. Because darts need to be a certain weight, this means that they must be thicker in order to accommodate the material. And by being thicker, the darts become less aerodynamic and they become more easily crowded when they hit the board (meaning that they might get pushed out by other darts, or rebound).

Tungsten is a much harder and heavier material (and will last longer too). This makes it faster and harder but note that most darts are not pure tungsten but are rather made from alloys that combine tungsten with nickel. The higher the nickel content, the softer the darts will be.

In order for a dart to be considered a pro-level item, it needs to be made from 90% tungsten. So when you consider that the Viper is 95% tungsten, it becomes apparent that you have a very impressive dart on your hands that feels strong and weighty and that travels fast.

Viper Sinister Darts Design

That fast travel is further aided by the smartly designed flights. These are designed in order to reduce drag and help the darts travel faster and straighter, offering a consistent flight path that allows for pinpoint accuracy.

Other smart design features include the aluminum shafts with locking holes that help to increase the tightness and prevent the darts from rattling over time through the air. These are just 100 micron thick, but made from heavy duty

We were also very impressed with the smooth, sleek barrels. These are very narrow and that helps them to whip through the air even more quickly. The grip here is excellent too, making the darts easy to hold onto and release. They are generally a pleasure to hold, meaning that you can throw with a lot of confidence.

It’s actually possible to get these darts in three different forms: teardrop barrel, contoured barrel, or bevelled barrel. Choose the type that best suits your play style, or experiment with a few to find the one you like most.

They’re also available in different weights – go for the 18 grams for a heavy feel, or 16 if you want something that feels a little more middle-of-the-road.

Extras & Value

These darts come with a few extra bells and whistles to write home about. Those include a dart mechanic tool which allows you to easily assemble and disassemble your darts. It also comes with spare flights and soft tips.

These are not cheap darts and are very much aimed at a more professional crowd – or those that hope to develop their skills to that point. That said, they are also not the worst offenders when it comes to price – these are within the realms of affordability for most players.
